Public Broadcasters' Debts: BHRT to Cease Broadcasting from June 30

The Supervisory Board of BHRT has today made a decision to temporarily cease production and broadcasting of programs from June 30. This decision is a direct consequence of the debt owed by the entity broadcasters amounting to 25 million KM: Radio Television of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina 16.5 million, and Radio Television of Republika Srpska 8.8 million KM, it was announced today, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

State institutions have not resolved the long-standing problem of the RTV fee and the financing of the public service. Today's decision was thus forced and only announces the real circumstances that will arise after June 30, when the current RTV fee collection model expires.

This decision will have consequences for the functioning of the entire public broadcasting system.

The Supervisory Board has instructed the management of BHRT to cooperate closely with the managements of the entity broadcasters in finding solutions that will eliminate the reasons for which today's decision was made.

Due to the crisis situation in which BHRT finds itself, the Supervisory Board will be in constant session.

The public, domestic and relevant international institutions will be informed about this decision and the dramatic situation in which BHRT finds itself.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will, if nothing is done, become the only European country that will not have a public service at the state level.

At the end of today's session, a regular rotation of the chairperson position was carried out. From the next session, the Supervisory Board of BHRT will be chaired by Sanja Latinović from Banja Luka.
