Dugalija confirms tram driver still the only suspect, cases involving Muhamed Ajanović in three prosecutor's offices

(Patria) - Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Meliha Dugalija confirmed that the investigation has not been expanded to include any other person in connection with the tram accident in which student Erdoan Morankić was fatally injured on February 12.

The only suspect from the beginning has been the tram driver, for whom the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo did not order custody. The KS Prosecutor's Office's qualification of the criminal offense as intentional was rejected, and the case is now under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Court in Sarajevo.

Dugalija stated that three prosecutors are handling this case, and various expert examinations are underway. The same experts who worked on the initial investigation are still involved.

The Chief Prosecutor emphasized that all circumstances that could have led to the accident are being investigated, including the technical condition of the vehicle and tram maintenance, and extensive material documentation has been seized.

In an interview with Istraga sedmice, she highlighted that expert examinations of seized video recordings, including from the US Embassy building, are ongoing, while a recording from the tram does not exist, as determined by an expert examination of the hard drive. Although the tram had video surveillance, the last recording is from November 29, 2025.

Speaking about the "GRAS" case, which was formed based on a criminal complaint from the Office for Combating Corruption in 2022, and in which an order for non-initiation of investigation was issued, Dugalija used her authority and decided to transfer the case to the jurisdiction of the Federal Prosecutor's Office (POSKOK).

She pointed out that this case had been archived and the acting prosecutor did not inform the injured parties.

"The collegium of the Federal Prosecutor's Office made conclusions, and the case was returned to our prosecutor's office. The case was returned to the phase preceding it and returned to the acting prosecutor for work," said Dugalija.

Speaking about the "Envelope" case, in which 14 people are indicted, she said that a decision from the judge for preliminary hearings at the Municipal Court in Sarajevo on confirming the indictment is pending and that it concerns a high-profile corruption case. She confirmed that special investigative actions were carried out in this case.

When asked by host Avdo Avdić, she confirmed that a part of the case related to Muhamed Ajanović, concerning "certain appointments in the judiciary," was handed over to the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

Another part, concerning the allocation of public funds for the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sarajevo, was handed over to the Federal Prosecutor's Office (POSKOK).
