State deputies today on amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH

(Patria) - The House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament should today consider the Bill on Amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH.

This legal proposal, proposed by deputy Denis Zvizdić, was supported yesterday in the second committee phase by the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.

Zvizdić proposes that the current provision, according to which "a prison sentence of up to one year, at the request of the convicted person, shall be commuted to a fine payable in a lump sum within 30 days", be replaced by a provision according to which a prison sentence of up to one year may be commuted to a fine at the request of the convicted person.

He previously explained that the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code of BiH prevents the redemption of prison sentences with fines, for example in cases such as inciting national, racial, and religious hatred, discord, and intolerance, international human trafficking, human smuggling, as well as other criminal offenses against humanity and values protected by international law.

Zvizdić explained that this means the Court will be able to order, taking into account the special circumstances of each individual case, the mandatory serving of a prison sentence.

In the second round of voting, deputies should decide whether to consider the Bill on Amendments to the Law on the Fundamentals of Road Traffic Safety in BiH, proposed by deputy Mia Karamehić-Abazović, under an urgent procedure, after the Collegium of the House did not reach an agreement on it.

For the same reason, in the second round of voting, they should also decide whether to consider the Bill on Amendments to the Election Law of BiH, proposed by deputy Nenad Grković, under an urgent procedure.

The Collegium did not reach an agreement on whether to consider the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Salaries and Benefits in BiH Institutions, proposed by deputies from the SDA Club, under an urgent procedure, and deputies will also vote on this in the second round of voting.

The agenda should include, among other things, the reports of the BiH Institutions Audit Office on the financial audit of BiH institutions for 2023, as well as the Annual Audit Report on Main Findings and Recommendations for 2023.

The session of the House of Representatives will be held in the BiH Institutions building in Sarajevo, starting at 11:00 AM.
