Drastic decline in education quality: Sport abolished in Sarajevo Sports Gymnasium!?

(Patria) - Parents of students in the sports department of the Fifth Gymnasium Sarajevo have expressed serious concern over information that even this school year, the practical part of classes in swimming and skiing, key activities prescribed by the curriculum, will not be implemented, reports Slobodna Bosna.

According to parents, if this information proves true, it would be the third consecutive year that students in the sports track have not had the opportunity to participate in these mandatory activities.

Parents warn that this seriously diminishes the quality of education and the purpose of the sports track, as these practical activities develop discipline, endurance, team spirit, and a healthy lifestyle among students.

"Many students chose the sports track precisely because of those experiences that cannot be gained in the classroom. If those experiences are missing, it is justifiably questioned what remains of 'sports' in the sports track," parents state in an appeal addressed to the Ministry and the Institute for Pre-University Education of the Sarajevo Canton.

Parents are seeking official answers to questions about whether swimming and skiing classes will be implemented in the 2025/2026 school year, what the possible reasons for their absence are, and whether the competent institutions plan to take concrete steps so that students receive what they are entitled to under the curriculum.

By the time of this article's publication, no responses had arrived from the Fifth Gymnasium Sarajevo or the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton to the inquiry by the Slobodna Bosna portal.

This case raises questions about the quality and continuity of practical classes in sports-track schools, at a time when the importance of investing in young people and promoting sports is increasingly emphasized.
