Dragan Mektić: Serbs must acknowledge the Srebrenica genocide

BiH, (Patria) - The BiH Minister of Security, Dragan Mektić, believes that "Serbs must go through a catharsis and acknowledge the Srebrenica genocide."

Mektić told "Večernji list", the BiH edition, that "there are relevant documents proving the genocide and Serbs must acknowledge it." 

"Look at Germany, the German parliament apologized for the Holocaust again the other day. We Serbs must go through that catharsis and acknowledge the genocide. No one can commit crimes, like those in Srebrenica, in my name. Sick minds did that and those individuals should be prosecuted," Mektić believes.

He is one of the few politicians from the BiH entity of Republika Srpska who has openly stated that Serbs must acknowledge the genocide, writes the Patria agency.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide, Adam Dieng, visited BiH these days. He held meetings with the President of the BiH entity of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, as well as with the BiH Presidency member, Mladen Ivanić.

The authorities in that entity do not acknowledge that a genocide occurred in Srebrenica, and the entity parliament has also presented awards to convicted war criminals, such as Biljana Plavšić.

Dieng stated that it is unacceptable to glorify convicted war criminals.
