Dragan Mektić: Is there anyone normal in this country?

Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić held an emergency press conference in Sarajevo today, and in his address to the public he sharply criticized the work of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by acting Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić.

He said today that not even director Alfred Hitchcock could have directed the things happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He commented on the announcement by the acting Chief Prosecutor that Mektić would have to answer for his claims that BiH is a broken state, reports N1, Patria reports.

''What is happening at the level of institutions? You saw yesterday that the prosecutor said I would be in the capacity of a suspect and explain why I think this is a broken state. I just ask her how many high-ranking officials deny this state, coexistence, who do not execute the decisions of the Constitutional Court, etc. Why doesn't she ask them why the legal system is broken in this country? If she doesn't know why this is a broken state, she is lost. It is unbelievable that the Prosecutor's Office today came out with such a statement. Dragan Mektić has no possibility to wiretap anyone. They slandered a state agency. I dare to guarantee that with this management they will not engage in such a thing. How far has this gone? Are these serious institutions? What authenticity is the prosecutor even talking about until a quality investigation is completed? Why now suddenly, despite all the robberies, should this be the priority of all priorities? I have reliable information that SIPA has found the original document that was forged,'' said Minister Mektić.

He then called on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH to, as he said, stop all of this.

''Imagine a state Prosecutor's Office, is there anyone normal in this country? I call on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH to stop this. Who is she to call on citizens? Is this '91, when citizens need to be called for peace and stability? We have evidence, an expert and experts will testify about it. So what will the Prosecutor's Office say then? Does the state have to experience this so that someone can be a prosecutor? If there is anyone normal to tell her to step aside, if she stays tomorrow, there are already consequences of some new kind. I cannot cure someone's sick ambitions. 

This is a blow to SIPA, a blow to destroy the dignity of this Agency. This is an incredible story, that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is conducting an investigation in this way, harassing the Agency, and that is why SIPA had to react today. That is their spontaneous reaction. Who strikes at the intellect of this people, when these people who take thousands of marks a month are dealing with this. This is the ultimate alarm and after this there is no further, the light goes out. Who does the ordinary people trust? I guarantee that we will preserve the institutions of SIPA. Trust has disappeared here, people from security agencies are outraged. How can we establish trust?'' asked Dragan Mektić.

When asked by a journalist whether it was true that after today's arrest of journalist Josip Šimić, the acting Chief Prosecutor herself intervened, Mektić said he 'heard' that exactly that happened.

''I heard that she called SIPA and asked for Šimić to be released,'' said Mektić.
