Dr. Stevanović: If Mobbing of General Hospital Doctors Continues, We Will Engage Ombudsmen

I advise colleagues from the General Hospital not to make any change in employment status without a good lawyer - said the Vice President of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton, Dr. Dragan Stevanović, today at a press conference, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

When asked by a journalist how he comments on the fact that doctors at the General Hospital are being pressured to submit a request for transfer to the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (UKCS), Dr. Stevanović called it mobbing.

- If the mobbing continues, we will engage human rights ombudsmen to prevent it – said Dr. Stevanović.

He explained that even if the merger of the General Hospital and UKCS occurs, whoever makes such decisions will also decide on the employment status of General Hospital employees.

Authorities in Sarajevo have announced the closure of the General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš," i.e., the merger of the General Hospital with the University Clinical Center Sarajevo. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, former director of the General Hospital, has already moved to UKCS. The relocation of doctors has also been announced soon.

The Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton welcomed the authorities' efforts to implement reforms in the healthcare system of Sarajevo Canton, but warns that the path they have taken for reforms is not good!

To carry out the reform, says Dr. Stevanović, a professional study must first be prepared. The authorities have not offered anything like that to date.

Until the current problem in the healthcare system of Sarajevo Canton is resolved, the Medical Chamber demands from directors of healthcare institutions and the current Minister of Sarajevo Canton Zilha Ademaj (SBB) to ensure the smooth functioning of healthcare system institutions in Sarajevo Canton, and to prevent any devastation of the system in terms of personnel, space, material, or any other aspect, writes Patria.
