SARAJEVO, (Patria) - It hasn't been long since the General Hospital „Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš“ in Sarajevo held a farewell for prim. dr. Dragan Stevanović, a specialist in internal medicine and subspecialist in diabetology and long-time head of the Internal Diseases Department of this health institution, and he is returning!
He was among the first to respond to the call of Dr. Zlatko Kravić and, in critical moments for the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the coronavirus pandemic, he wants and can help.
He states in an interview with the Patria News Agency that the epidemiological situation in Sarajevo Canton is currently good.
“It can be said that it is stable in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. The next three weeks are key to showing whether we took measures in time,” says Dr. Stevanović.
About his motives for responding to Kravić's call without hesitation, he says:
“I got involved not because of the crisis, but to use experience to prevent a scenario of mass epidemic and also to prepare in advance for the worst-case scenario if it comes. For now, I am quite optimistic,” said Stevanović.
Incidentally, Dr. Stevanović also made an immeasurable contribution to the defense of the country during the most difficult days of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, working as deputy commander of the Medical Battalion of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the very end of the war in 1995, he was wounded on Treskavica.
He also advocated for the advancement of the medical profession in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton, which he led for six years, and served two terms as president of the Management Board of the Medical Chamber of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"For a responsible doctor and any other healthcare worker who lives, not just performs their calling, and who from the moment of graduation until death remains a healthcare worker, it is normal to make themselves available to the healthcare system in a crisis.
That is why medicine, with due respect for all other professions, is a way of life and not just a profession," believes Dr. Stevanović.
