Dr. Ramadan: Ramadan is not for profit and consumerism!

If we as Muslims do not understand that Ramadan is not for profit and consumerism, we will have a big problem, says Dr. Tarik Ramadan in the new Ramadan Chronicle, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP). According to him, fasting and Ramadan teach a person to renounce any kind of addiction, except for acknowledging dependence on God.

– A third of Ramadan has passed. At the very beginning, we talked about following the Prophet, peace be upon him, by testifying that there is no god but Allah. We talked about the relationship between time and space, about justice, about the reconciliation of Muslims and solidarity – he says.

Also, he points out, we mentioned the most important qualities that adorned Muhammad, peace be upon him, such as truthfulness and honesty even before the revelation, and then they were confirmed by the revelation.

– However, people rejected and criticized him, despite these qualities, when he received the revelation from Allah, even though he came to serve people and deliver Allah's revelation. In his tribe, he experienced two things: the people of his tribe, the Quraysh, did not even want to listen to him and were afraid that Muhammad, peace be upon him, was doing everything for power and position. They justified their rejection with this, but regardless, he repeated his message, remained patient, and worked on delivering the mission – says Dr. Ramadan.

This, as he states, is a frighteningly important message for fasters: self-control, self-mastery, self-care, guarding against any addiction and excess.

– We must establish the right principles in our lives. To be someone who does good in the name of Allah and changes the world for the better, especially today in the culture of consumerism. If we as Muslims do not understand that Ramadan is not for profit and consumerism, we will have a big problem – he adds.

Dr. Ramadan advises that we must adhere to the principles of faith to avoid addictions, because the entire essence of Islam is contained in the sentence “There is no god but Allah.”

– There is only one God, there is no other ruler, and I reject any form of addiction. You will not see all people happy about this, you will encounter rejection, criticism, but you must face them in an adequate way. You must face criticism in accordance with your faith, knowledge, and wisdom, especially while fasting. Let us fast with wisdom and respond with wisdom – he concludes, adding the words: Do not forget to tell those you love that you love them!
