Dr. Ramadan: Nature Teaches Us That After One Life, Another Inevitably Comes!

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would cry when reciting the verse “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, are signs for those of understanding.”, states Dr. Tarik Ramadan at the beginning of a new part of Ramadan Chronicles. According to him, the Ramadan fast builds a special relationship and connection between man and nature, and offers messages that should be contemplated.  

We spoke about a very specific connection between time and space. While we tried to explain the dimension of time through following Abraham (PBUH) and his tradition, which is reflected in recognizing only one God, accepting and submitting to God's peace, and doing good deeds, we are trying to explain the dimension of space through the example of the desert – he says.

In the latest chapters of the Quran, as he states, there is talk about a very specific connection between man and nature.

- The Prophet (PBUH) stayed in the desert. In such a situation, when time becomes different, the connection with things is different, and then nature speaks to man. Nature calls you and offers answers to what life is and what it is like. The Quran says: “And among His signs is this, that He created you from dust, and behold! you are human beings scattered (far and wide).” Here we see very important signs: He who gives life to the earth will give us life again. Nature speaks to us, and we must understand how we treat it and the signs around us. The Prophet (PBUH) was in the desert, and it spoke to him and gave him signs like a book – emphasizes Dr. Ramadan.

While we fast and while we are in a special connection with time and space, Dr. Ramadan emphasizes that we must return to and accept nature and increase our awareness of it.

- Let us remember that the Prophet (PBUH) used to cry when he recited the verse: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, are signs for those who reflect.” Through such an approach, we can say: Yes, time flies, it passes, but things return, this life goes, but another life comes. Life after life. Nature tells us this, Allah reminds us of it through His signs. And as we fast day by day, we must understand the heart of this message.
