Dr. Ramadan: Do not judge others before you see the world through their eyes!

Islam calls for us to understand others and thus bring peace to human relations, says Dr. Tarik Ramadan in the seventh installment of his Ramadan Chronicles, reports the BH News Agency Patria. According to him, fasting reminds us of the qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in his relationship with people.

- Today we will mention some of the qualities of the Prophet (pbuh) that were expressed in his relationship with people, and which he applied not only with his closest ones, but also with the powerful and rulers. We can call this specific relationship intellectual empathy, which we interpret as the ability to put ourselves in another's position, to see things through their eyes, in order to understand them better – states Dr. Ramadan.

Without judgment, as he points out, a Muslim should try to understand the other, because only then is it possible to solve a certain problem.

- Just one example of such a way of dealing with people is the construction of the Kaaba. The tribal leaders were arguing about who would place the Black Stone in one of the corners of the Kaaba. In that competition, they finally said, "We will ask the first person who comes by." The first one who came by was Muhammad (pbuh), who was not yet a Prophet at that time. He listened to them, and then asked for a cloth on the middle of which he placed the black stone, and asked all the leaders to take one end of the cloth and lift it, so that he could place the Black Stone in its intended place. We see that he did not criticize them, but listened to them, tried to understand them, and then reconciled them – concludes Dr. Ramadan.

Therefore, from an Islamic perspective, it is necessary to show excellent character, have intellectual empathy, and strive to establish peace among people.

- As the Quran also states: "Indeed, the believers are brothers, so make reconciliation between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy!" The Prophet (pbuh) did exactly that, he spread peace and reconciled Muslims. This is one of the essential messages of Islam: while you fast, while you live, be one who spreads peace! Establish friendly relations, try to develop intellectual empathy in yourself so that through mutual understanding you establish peace and friendship, says Dr. Ramadan, concluding his message with the words: Never forget to tell the people you love that you love them!
