Dr. Ramadan: The Qur'an is a light, and we want to be close to it

Through learning the Qur'an we preserve our connection with our Creator, says Dr. Tariq Ramadan in the new installment of Ramadan Chronicles, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

He specifically referred to the Qur'an, the revelation from Allah (swt), emphasizing its importance in the life of a believer. According to his words, orientalists tried to introduce a certain controversy regarding the reliability and understanding of the Qur'an, but they did not succeed. The word of Allah contained in the Qur'an is the truth, and Muslims are allowed to understand and interpret it.  

- It is necessary for a person to be aware that reason is not sufficient for understanding life and that it is necessary for Allah to reveal the secret of life to us through revelation. We must understand that our reason is limited and that some things, such as knowledge about Allah, we can only obtain through revelation and what Allah Himself has said about Himself – says Dr. Ramadan.

The third element that is important to mention, he points out, is the fact that the Qur'an was revealed in Ramadan, from which stems a strong and deep connection of the fasting person with the Qur'an.

- Through learning the Qur'an we conduct a dialogue and conversation with our Creator, and in a special way we experience the spiritual dimension of fasting. The Qur'an is good news, but also a great responsibility. Also, the Qur'an is a light, and we want to be close to the light, i.e. close to Allah Almighty – concluding his 14th Ramadan Chronicle with the words: Do not forget to tell those you love that you love them!
