Dr. Ramadan: The life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) brought both joy and sorrow, but he firmly held onto his faith!

We are entering the last, blessed third of Ramadan in which we seek Laylat al-Qadr, the night when the revelation of the Qur'an began, says Dr. Tariq Ramadan in the 21st installment of Ramadan Chronicles, as reported by the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

- For us, that night is very significant and powerful, because it is worth more than a thousand months, and it falls on the odd nights of the last third of Ramadan. Perhaps we are tired now, perhaps we seek rest and a return to everyday life, but there are still ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan ahead of us – emphasizes Dr. Ramadan.

Yesterday, as Dr. Ramadan notes, we mentioned the joyful news of the conversion to Islam of Umar (RA), and today we will speak about the saddest year in the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in which he lost his beloved wife Khadija (RA) and his uncle Abu Talib. That is why this year was declared the „Year of Sorrow.“

- Both of them played significant roles in his life, protected him, and gave him selfless and unconditional love. So, besides happy moments, the life of the Prophet (PBUH) was also filled with difficult times. What he, as a witness to the revelation and a Prophet, had to do was to master his emotions and adhere to the principles of faith – states Dr. Ramadan.

This is precisely what, he particularly emphasizes, is expected and required of believers while they fast.

- We may suffer, we may find it hard and be exhausted, we may cry, but from sunrise to sunset we should hold onto our principles and master our emotions, because that is what Allah's beloved, Muhammad (PBUH), did – he points out.

That is why an interesting example, he adds, is when the Prophet (PBUH) visited his uncle Abu Talib on his deathbed and invited him to Islam. He refused and died as a non-Muslim: „You cannot guide those you love; Allah guides whom He wills.“

- But what you can do is to adhere to the principle of offering and delivering the revelation; you may suffer and it will be difficult, but you must have faith in God and know that with Him you can rise above your emotions, mastering them as well as religious principles. May Allah help us in this, and do not forget to tell those you love that you love them – concludes his 21st Ramadan Chronicle, Dr. Ramadan!
