Dr. Ramadan: If you care about your heart, take care of your knowledge!

Knowledge is the light of faith just as faith is the light of knowledge, emphasizes Dr. Tarik Ramadan in the latest installment of his Ramadan chronicles, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).  In the ninth installment, he speaks about the importance of knowledge in human life, reminding that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, also sought to find his inner peace, questioning and seeking answers to numerous questions.

- We saw that the answer came, through the angel Jibril. Here we recognize the deep connection between our faith and knowledge. We cannot achieve the peace we are called to without seeking the truth. Truth is close to God, because God is truth. We realize that all of this is connected to the acquisition of knowledge – says Dr. Ramadan.

He highlights the lesson from the first verses of the Qur'an revealed to Muhammad, peace be upon him.

- Knowledge is the light of faith just as faith is the light of knowledge. As the Qur'an emphasizes: „Read in the name of your Lord, who created you and taught you things you did not know.“ Knowledge here has two meanings: read about your Lord and His creation through creatures and nature, and through what is written. This guides us to achieve deep faith by striving to attain broad knowledge, which also means observation, experience, as well as reading and understanding – concludes Dr. Ramadan.

According to his words, there is also a clear connection between fasting and knowledge, which together produce in a person a state of inner peace, that is, a sincere and true relationship with God.

- While fasting, we try to take care of ourselves and our hearts, to achieve inner peace. But remember, there is no inner peace without enlightenment of the mind. So you must take care of your knowledge and mind, if you care about your heart – says Dr. Ramadan.

Also, he reminds that in this search and acquisition of knowledge, a person should be aware of limitations, because Allah, glory be to Him, is the only one who knows everything and encompasses all with His knowledge. This humility in seeking and gathering knowledge will ease the person and enhance the spiritual enlightenment that one gains through knowledge.
