Pope Francis arrived today in Amman, Jordan, and this is his first stop during his tour of the Middle East, which will be marked by interreligious and ecumenical dialogue and during which he will also visit Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
After exiting the plane, the Pope was welcomed by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, advisor to the Jordanian King for religious affairs. A girl and a boy in traditional dress presented him with a bouquet of irises, which is a symbol of the kingdom.
The Pope was also received at the palace in Amman by King Abdullah II, who has visited the Vatican twice. At this reception, as the Patria News Agency has learned, Dr. Mustafa Cerić, President of the World Bosniak Congress and a possible candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH in the General Elections in October, was also present at the King's invitation.
