Dr. Izetbegović ignored citizens' requests: Inventory of Dr. Gavrankapetanović's private archive continues

The Commission of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo will continue on Monday with the inventory of private property in the office of the former head of the Orthopedic Clinic, Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, although this is an illegal act, confirmed for the Patria agency by the legal representative of Dr. Gavrankapetanović, Senad Pećanin.

"After a few days ago it inventoried all items in the office of the former head of the Clinic, Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, in accordance with the last inventory list from March 2017, the Handover Commission continues the inventory of Professor Gavrankapetanović's private belongings as well, including his many years of private and professional correspondence with colleagues from around the world, which represents an illegal act of violence," said Pećanin.

"In this way, the management of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo continues with shameless violence that seriously threatens the basic functions of the Orthopedic Clinic and the entire Clinical Center," Pećanin warned earlier for the media.

The Board of Directors and the General Director of KCUS, Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, abruptly dismissed the leading European orthopedist, Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, from the position of head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology of KCUS.
The management of the largest healthcare institution in the country did not provide an explanation for this dismissal, which provoked strong reactions from orthopedists and organizations from all over Europe, as well as the public.

In just one hour on Saturday, hundreds of citizens of Sarajevo signed a book of support for Dr. Gavrankapetanović and other doctors from KCUS, who claim that the management of KCUS and Dr. Izetbegović are subjecting them to mobbing after they opposed the dismissal of Dr. Gavrankapetanović.

Citizens who supported the doctors from KCUS over the weekend said that with their signatures they are contributing to the fight for better healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Among those who signed the book of support are many public figures, as well as doctors from Sarajevo health centers.

A few days earlier, a group of Bosnian-Herzegovinian intellectuals, journalists, artists and other public figures demanded the urgent dismissal of the management of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, due to the crisis at the most important healthcare institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a letter signed by professors Rusmir Mahmutćehajić, Enver Kazaz, Esad Bajtal, Slavo Kukić, Nerzuk Ćurak and others, they called on the competent institutions, responsible individuals and the entire Bosnian-Herzegovinian public to stop the further deterioration of KCUS, mobbing of doctors, and the departure of the best medical professionals from the country.

The management of KCUS ignored the request of public figures as well as the requests of citizens. Dr. Gavrankapetanović said that he is no longer interested in the head position. He only wants the profession, not politics, to make decisions at KCUS, as is currently the practice.
