Dr. Gavrankapetanović faces disciplinary action at KCUS for using one-hour break!

Orthopedist at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Professor Ismet Gavrankapetanović, has been notified of disciplinary proceedings because he left the KCUS premises during working hours.

A leading European orthopedist and former head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at KCUS, Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, confirmed to the Patria agency that the new head of the Clinic, Dr. Đemil Omerović, informed him that disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against him for leaving the KCUS premises and being a guest at the Embassy of the United States of America in Sarajevo earlier this week.

The Law on Labor of FBiH allows Dr. Gavrankapetanović one hour of rest during working hours. Article 44, paragraphs 1 and 2 of this law state: An employee who works more than six hours a day has the right to a break during the working day of at least 30 minutes. The employer is obliged to allow the employee, at their request, the break from paragraph 1 of this article for one hour on one day during the working week.

Professor Gavrankapetanović said that he had finished his duties at KCUS that day, including an operation, and that he had announced his departure to friends at the Embassy during the morning medical collegium, but that the KCUS management had nevertheless notified him of disciplinary proceedings, even though, he said, he was only exercising a legally guaranteed right.

Some doctors at KCUS have been warning for days about the mobbing by the management of the largest healthcare institution in the country, led by Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, after they opposed the dismissal of Gavrankapetanović from the position of head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology. Doctors warn of pressure from the new management, as well as the catastrophic conditions in which they work. It is reported that at least 40 doctors, including top specialists, have left KCUS after the appointment of Dr. Sebija Izetbegović as the manager of this healthcare institution in early January 2016, writes NAP.
