Dr. Cerić: We must not forget Vukovar and Srebrenica!

Victims of violence and genocide deserve our respect and remind us that their sacrifice must not be forgotten. Vukovar and Srebrenica, cities whose names will remain inscribed in the darkest part of 20th-century history, must not be forgotten, said Dr. Mustafa Cerić, President of the World Bosniak Congress, in a message on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the fall of Vukovar and the crimes committed in that city, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- The crime in Vukovar was an introduction, a kind of ominous announcement of what would happen in the following four years, both in Croatia and in our country, Bosnia and Herzegovina - emphasized Dr. Cerić.

Time, or history, he added, will show why the world remained silent, why it did not react to the atrocities in Vukovar, unprecedented in Europe since World War II, allowing the idea of a Greater Serbia to persist, strengthen, and lead to genocide in Srebrenica.

- Although Europe betrayed the vow of 'Never again', given after World War II, by not reacting to the suffering of innocent people and the destruction in the former Yugoslavia, I hope that this cry, the cry of 'Never again', will not fall silent and that Europe and the entire world must respect it and not allow a new Vukovar or Srebrenica to happen - pointed out Dr. Cerić.

- In our thoughts and souls today, we are with the victims of Vukovar and sincerely sympathize with their families - said Dr. Cerić.

- Vukovar and Srebrenica must never happen to anyone again! We must not forget Vukovar and Srebrenica! We owe this to the victims, but also to our descendants; so that what happened to us does not happen to them - emphasized Dr. Cerić.
