Dr. Cerić: Dayton Agreement Reform is not a threat to anyone

The Resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina, submitted to the US Congress by Congressman Chris Smith, is a document that leads to the unification, not the breakup of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as some are trying to portray it, stated Dr. Mustafa Cerić, independent candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday at a rally in Gračanica near Visoko.

- Just as everyone interprets the Dayton Agreement in their own way, so everyone interprets the proposal of the latest resolution on our country differently - said Dr. Cerić.

He emphasized that opportunities, such as the chance given to our country in the US Congress, after years and years of unsuccessful diplomacy, should not be missed, but should be accepted and actively worked on.

- I recall the story of the Pešter wolf. Namely, mothers in Pešter traditionally taught their children what to do if they encountered a wolf. The advice is - don't run away, be ready before it, stand in its way and look it in the eye. This is exactly how we should approach the problems in our country - let's be ready and analyze the situation in advance, let's face the problems and start solving them bravely, instead of running away from them and complaining about how powerless we are and how others are to blame for our powerlessness - emphasized Dr. Cerić.

He added that this is precisely the case with the proposal of the new resolution and the Dayton Agreement.

- Bosnia and Herzegovina has been stagnating for years thanks to politicians who blindly adhere to the Dayton Agreement, which, in a way, keeps them in power. It is incomprehensible how they consider this agreement, which actually established structural discrimination in our country, almost sacred, while on the other hand they swear by human rights, which is inherently incompatible with the Dayton Agreement - stated Dr. Cerić.

- The Dayton Agreement is currently a brake on progress in our country, and we must face this issue like the Pešter wolf. We must consider all options, face the challenges, look each other in the eye and offer solutions to everyone's satisfaction - said Dr. Cerić, emphasizing that the reform of the Dayton Agreement is not a threat to anyone, but a necessary step on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration.

- I don't understand why the loudest opponents on this issue are always those who constantly directly threaten the Constitution of our country, and who themselves call for the division of the country every now and then and do nothing to prevent serious human rights violations - emphasized Dr. Cerić.
