Dr. Almir Badnjević Receives Prestigious World Award in Clinical Engineering

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Assistant Professor Almir Badnjević, together with his team, received the award for the best article and research in the field of clinical engineering for 2018, at the closing ceremony of the IUPESM 2018 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Prague, reports the Patria agency.

In addition, at the IFMBE General Assembly, Dr. Badnjević was elected for the 2018-2021 term as a member of the board of the International Division for Clinical Engineering (IFMBE-CED), which operates as a branch of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), thus becoming one of nine people in the world leading key procedures in the field of clinical engineering.

“Our work discusses the results we have achieved in terms of increasing the accuracy, precision and reliability of infusion pumps and syringe pumps in healthcare facilities by performing verification procedures and the methods we apply for the same,” emphasized Dr. Badnjević, adding that the article and research are specific due to the fact that they are a rare case where results are based on real devices in healthcare facilities, and on a very large sample.

“Our procedures and research were recognized last year at the Global Forum on Medical Devices by the World Health Organization (WHO) and as such were classified as an example of good practice at the global level,” pointed out Dr. Badnjević, stating that these results open up new opportunities for the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.

“We can now activate all issues of clinical engineering in BiH, and the Ministry of Health and healthcare institutions in BiH can benefit the most from this, if they recognize it. This division also regulates all clinical engineering issues within the World Health Organization, and I hope that our country will use this opportunity to make certain progress, rather than me spending my mandate helping other countries,” stated Dr. Badnjević.

The award for the best article and research in the field of clinical engineering (A Best Clinical Engineering Article Award) is given annually to one or a group of authors whose work demonstrates scientific value, professional relevance and broad impact.

The International Association of Clinical Engineers (IFMBE-CED) brings together experts from around the world dedicated to advancing safe and effective medical methods through mutual communication and knowledge exchange, as well as professional development and certification. Collaborating globally with regulatory agencies, standardization bodies, the World Health Organization and other professional organizations, IFMBE-CED strives to enhance the role of clinical engineering within the institutional frameworks of health policy, strategy, planning and management.

This appointment came several months after Assistant Professor Almir Badnjević was declared a councilor of EAMBES (European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science) in London, the most respected organization in Europe dealing with medical and biological engineering and science.
