Gjorge Ivanov calls on Zoran Zaev to initiate his impeachment

SKOPJE, (Patria) - Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov has called on Prime Minister Zoran Zaev to initiate impeachment proceedings against him, claiming that his stance on the country's name is final and remains unchanged.

- I call on Zaev, with the same two-thirds majority required to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, to immediately initiate proceedings to determine the responsibility of the head of state - Ivanov stated, as reported by BHT.

Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said last night that the parliamentary majority will seek the impeachment of the president if he does not sign the agreement with Greece, and if citizens vote positively in the referendum on changing the country's name to the Republic of North Macedonia.

Meanwhile, a session of the Sobranje has begun, where the agreement on the country's name, the Republic of North Macedonia, is to be ratified under an urgent procedure.

Greece will ratify the agreement after all procedures in Macedonia are completed, including the constitutional amendment and the referendum.

Protesters in Skopje last night, on the sixth day of demonstrations, said they do not want the EU and NATO, only Macedonia, and that they will not stop resisting the change of the country's constitutional name, threatening civil disobedience.

The foreign ministers of Macedonia and Greece, Nikola Dimitrov and Nikos Kotzias, signed an agreement on June 17 in Psarades, on the Greek shore of Lake Prespa, to resolve the Macedonian-Greek dispute over the name and strategic partnership between the two countries.
