Law on Family Childcare to be Introduced in Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At today's session of the Sarajevo Canton (KS) Assembly, Our Party representative Neira Dizdarević will launch a representative initiative to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of KS for the adoption of a law on family childcare services.

Family childcare is a widespread activity that is not regulated by existing laws, although within the classification of activities, there is a possibility for its performance under code 88.91, which refers to "child day care activities".
 
For working parents, one of the most common forms of daily childcare for children up to three years of age is hiring a nanny in their own home or taking the child to a nanny's home.

In addition to hiring a nanny, there is also daily childcare in residential buildings, where care is provided in groups with preschool or school-aged children, which further reduces the cost of the service. The number of advertisements for childcare of one or more children in small groups in residential buildings in the KS area proves that such an activity is generally present.

Our Party points out that "this practice has been present here for decades, but it is legally ignored."
 
Representative Neira Dizdarević says that the adoption of a law on family childcare would be of multiple benefits to society. Parents would be able to choose between institutional and non-institutional childcare, there would be an opportunity for childcare in small groups by professionally trained individuals, and supervision over the conditions in which children stay and the way they are treated would be introduced.
 
"This law would bring legal certainty for parents and service providers, but it would also enable self-employment for a good portion of unemployed persons and reduce the grey economy. In addition, it would signify an active approach to the rights, health, and well-being of children, and would bring us closer to the legal frameworks and good practices of more developed countries in Europe and the world," emphasizes Dizdarević.
