Happy Birthday, Bosnia and Herzegovina!

Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrates Statehood Day today, with November 25th chosen as the date of the first session of ZAVNOBiH in 1943 in Mrkonjić Grad. At that time, the ZAVNOBiH resolution was adopted, expressing the determination of the people of BiH that their country be a united community in which full equality of all will be ensured, as well as the equality of the Republic of BiH within the Yugoslav federation, with historical borders dating back to the medieval Bosnian period, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

The founding assembly was attended by 247 delegates from all parts of BiH, 173 of whom had voting rights. At the first session, ZAVNOBiH was formally constituted as the representative body of the National Liberation Movement (NOP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but in reality and practice, it acted as its highest organ of power.

The delegates adopted the ZAVNOBiH Resolution and the Proclamation to the Peoples of BiH, which emphasize that in the future, BiH and its peoples, both domestically and abroad, can only be represented by ZAVNOBiH and AVNOJ.

These acts simultaneously expressed the determination of the peoples of BiH that their country, which is neither Serbian, nor Croatian, nor Muslim, but Serbian, Muslim, and Croatian, be a united community in which full equality of all Serbs, Muslims, and Croats will be ensured, writes NAP.
