The former Pensioners' Home in Sarajevo, located in Nedžarići, was destroyed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina before anyone had even moved in, writes the BiH news agency Patria. Built just before the aggression, this picturesque building, unlike anything that existed in Sarajevo before, is now an eyesore in the city.
Even today, nineteen years after the war, this facility has not been renovated, although existing institutions for pensioners are overcrowded. Property-legal relations between the state, the Municipality of Ilidža, and the Federal Pension and Disability Insurance Fund have not been resolved. The estimated value of this facility is around 20 million KM.
A Facebook group called "Sarajevo Then and Now" was created, where we found a photograph of the Pensioners' Home taken on March 28, 1992. Generations born during and after the war have not had the opportunity to see what Sarajevo looked like in the past, except through pictures from parents, relatives, or some archival photographs on the internet, writes Patria.
