House of Peoples of the FBiH to again discuss disputed rights in the area of veteran-disability protection on 7 September

The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the FBiH will convene on 7 September, when the 14th session of the House, interrupted on 23 June, will continue. This was decided yesterday at the Collegium of the House of Peoples. At the session of the House of Peoples, the Proposal for a Law on Amendments to the Law on the Implementation of Control of Legality of the Use of Rights in the Area of Veteran-Disability Protection will again be on the agenda. 

It was precisely because of this proposed law that the session of the House of Peoples was interrupted on 23 June. The interruption of the session was initiated by the Club of Croats in this house, after the Government of the FBiH refused to adopt the amendments of the Club of Croats.

Former Federal Minister for Veterans and Disabled Persons Affairs Zukan Helez suspended the payment of veteran disability benefits to several municipalities in Herzegovina, pending a review of whether certain individuals deserve the veteran disability benefit or not. He stated that the Federation of BiH pays out tens of millions of KM annually in veteran disability benefits, but some recipients do not deserve them at all. 

Due to this decision, hundreds of those who claim they have been wronged have initiated proceedings before the Supreme Court of the FBiH. However, they are now seeking to have these proceedings transferred to cantonal courts. The HDZ BiH, during the election campaign for the General Elections in BiH in 2014, promised that all those who lost the right to veteran disability benefits would be reinstated, but it is evident that there is currently no agreement from coalition partners for such a move, writes Patria.
