House of Peoples of FBiH Adopts Amendments to the Law: Pensioners Can Take Up Employment Without Suspension of Pension Payments

(Patria) - Today, the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, continuing the work on improving pensioners' rights and ensuring a fair and transparent pension system.

The adopted amendments primarily aim to align existing practices with the legal framework and formally recognize pensioners' rights in accordance with the Constitutional Court's decision.

“These amendments to the law include the recognition and formal acknowledgment of the Constitutional Court's ruling, which has been in effect for a year and does not bring new practical changes. Furthermore, regarding the suspension of disability and family pensions, which has been discussed in the media, it is important to emphasize that this suspension has existed for at least 40 years, practically since the inception of the pension system, and remains unchanged with the adoption of these amendments,” explained the Federal Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Adnan Delić.

One of the more significant novelties, as stated by the minister, brought by these amendments relates to the possibility of pensioners working.

Namely, although pensioners were previously allowed to work on temporary and occasional jobs without suspension of their pensions, with this amendment to the Law, pensioners who have retired regularly can now take up employment without suspension of their pension, which has been enabled by the Constitutional Court's ruling.

The adoption of these amendments to the Law represents a step forward in recognizing pensioners' rights and ensures that existing practice is aligned with the legal framework. The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina thus confirms its commitment to improving pensioners' rights and building a fair and transparent pension system.
