House of Peoples of BiH today on excise taxes, energy sector, and key reform laws for EU path

(Patria) - The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina should consider several important legal proposals at an emergency session today, including the request of the House of Representatives to consider amendments to the Excise Tax Law under an urgent procedure.

The proposed amendments stipulate that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina may temporarily reduce or abolish excise taxes on petroleum products in case of market disturbances, for a period of up to six months during one year.

This proposal was previously adopted by the House of Representatives, but the House of Peoples did not discuss it due to a lack of quorum after delegates from SNSD left.

Delegates will also consider the bill regulating the restriction of property disposal to prevent the financing of terrorism, with the aim of establishing an effective system for implementing international sanctions and addressing MONEYVAL's concerns.

On the agenda is also the law on the regulator and the electricity market, which is important for harmonization with EU regulations and the establishment of an electricity exchange in BiH.

Furthermore, amendments to the law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Court of BiH, the adoption of which is one of the key conditions for opening negotiations with the European Union, are before the delegates.

In addition, amendments to the law on salaries and work in BiH institutions, service in the Armed Forces, as well as amendments to the law on the Intelligence-Security Agency of BiH will be considered.
