Pouring kerosene on the fire: "Moderate" Ivanić exerts political pressure on the Constitutional Court of BiH

With his statements ahead of tomorrow's session of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which have recently echoed those made by RS President Milorad Dodik, the „moderate“ member of the Presidency of BiH, Mladen Ivanić, is exerting direct political pressure on the highest judicial instance in the country, writes the Patria news agency.

Ivanić said today in Banja Luka that failure to accept the RS request to reject the initial decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH would be „not pouring oil but kerosene on the fire“.

-I fear that under the conditions of such a decision, anything could happen in BiH, said Ivanić, after a conversation with Dragan Čavić, chairman of the Committee for Political System, Judiciary and Administration of the National Assembly of the RS.

He expressed expectations that the Constitutional Court of BiH will adopt the RS request and that this will contribute to calming the situation in BiH.

Čavić joined him in the pressure, warning that the decision on the referendum was made by the National Assembly and that no one else has the right nor can postpone it.

Ivanić and Čavić stated that they believe the referendum scheduled for September 25 will be held.

There are still about 15 days until the local elections, and it is clear that the opposition in the RS has also joined the nationalist stances on which Dodik is running his campaign.

However, Ivanić, as a member of the collective head of state, should, regardless of the election campaign, remain on the sidelines and not comment on court decisions. Especially not as he did today, a day before the session of the Constitutional Court of BiH, by making statements that exert political pressure, which are precisely the kerosene on the fire that he is pouring.
