Murphy's arrival not yet confirmed, US ready to help but cannot do the leaders' job

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina should soon get a new ambassador from the United States. Michael Murphy has been officially appointed as the new US ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but as they told Patria from the US Embassy in BiH, his arrival has not yet been confirmed.

“The arrival of our next ambassador has not yet been confirmed. Ambassador Eric Nelson remains in the position of US ambassador until he leaves BiH,” the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy told NAP.

At the same time, Milorad Dodik, in his speeches, following a separatist policy, almost always touches upon the US and its role in BiH. In his latest address, he said that BiH will only last until the end of the Biden administration.

Commenting on these claims, the US Embassy in BiH stated:

“The United States has had a clear and consistent policy towards BiH and the region for years. We are committed to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and unequivocally support the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as established in the Dayton Peace Agreement. The US remains committed to our common goal, which is a democratic, inclusive, and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to full Euro-Atlantic integration.

Escalating rhetoric and actions that lead to the destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina are a dangerous impediment to the hard work that needs to be done. BiH leaders must commit to implementing difficult reforms and start achieving results regarding electoral reform, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, as well as economic reform priorities, which will represent meaningful progress on the path to the EU, and show citizens that their future is here.

We are ready to help, but we cannot do the job that BiH leaders need to do.

A divided country is not economically viable and would not enable the European perspective that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina strive for and desire. We support the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their pursuit of changes that will enable them prosperity,” added the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy.
