While the West earns millions of euros on legends, Bosnia's national monuments are decaying!

World metropolises have commercialized every corner of the city, turning even the most banal legends into attractive tourist destinations, writes the Patria news agency.

Thus, the famous statue "Manneken Pis", a symbol of the city of Brussels, attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually, who leave millions of euros in the EU capital.

The story is not that convincing. Legend has it that an unnamed little boy extinguished the fuse of a barrel of gunpowder placed under the city walls by invaders with his own urine.

The approximately sixty-centimeter-tall statue of a urinating boy, made at the beginning of the seventeenth century, today represents one of the biggest tourist attractions in Brussels.

Bosnia and Herzegovina also has attractive destinations to offer tourists, many of them with far better stories than those that bring millions of KM to Western countries, but local authorities still do not use this potential, and no one knows why.

Thus, one of the attractive tourist destinations in BiH - the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar - built in 1965 in honor of all Mostar residents killed in the National Liberation War, has been overgrown with weeds for more than 20 years, although it is located just a few minutes from the city center. The cemetery was built, during the period of renewal and reconstruction that followed the end of World War II, by architect Bogdan Bogdanović, as a memorial to the fallen Mostar partisans, anti-fascists, and in honor of all those who fought against fascism throughout Europe and the world during World War II.

The cemetery covers 5,000 square meters, built on six irregular terraces, was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2006, and is considered one of the most beautiful architectural projects in the Balkans.

The people of Mostar are asking local authorities to adapt this historical monument and include it in Mostar's tourist offer, but the authorities still do nothing to revive this iconic place, writes Patria.
