Milorad Dodik is not a 'great Serb', he is even greater than that. Dodik cannot see himself in the mirror how much he has grown. A real bully. So much so that he can and dares to threaten the US and Germany, and in the economic sphere. No more, no less: if they impose sanctions on him and the RS, according to Dodik's opinion, the US and Germany will regret it because the smaller entity in BiH has countermeasures.
Dodik is playing with the intelligence of his own people by claiming that they will not suffer because of the sanctions. Citizens of the RS, as well as the Federation, are already suffering because Dodik and his brethren on both sides of the entity line are doing everything to drive away serious investors. The result of their policy is that food in BiH is more expensive than in Germany, and we know where salaries are higher and by how much.
While citizens 'cannot afford croissants', Dodik beats his chest and claims that investors have been lining up all these years to invest in the RS. This is a message to citizens: trust Dodik more than your own eyes.
That was also the case when the Nikola Tesla company was opened. A state investment that was supposed to impress the region. Electric cars were supposed to go to Germany, the first quantities were agreed upon, but only loans from the Development Bank were realized.
Dodik installed a director who had previously ruined several companies. He was also successful with Tesla. If Dodik gets angry, the Germans will never get the cars that were supposed to arrive back in 2013.
By the middle of this year, direct foreign investments in the RS amounted to 211 million marks. Last year, around 290 million, and they are lower than in the Federation of BiH. Total foreign investments to date are almost twice as high in the Federation of BiH as in the RS. Foreign investors have invested about 4 billion marks less in the RS than in the Federation of BiH. So that citizens of the smaller entity do not feel less important, the government has taken care of that through borrowing. In this regard, they are on par with the Federation of BiH, except that the RS is twice as indebted per capita as the Federation of BiH.
Let's be objective, Dodik's government was not too interested in Western investments, which is why they now talk about having an alternative. Serbia is the largest investor in the RS; about 50 percent of investments this year were realized from Serbia, which is slowly but surely buying up everything of value. Statistics show that the Russians are not as generous towards the RS as politicians swear by their support and understanding. The Russians have their own interests, and they don't care whether the citizens of the RS will live on canned food. This is best illustrated by the results of Russian investments. Most of what was bought through dubious channels is failing, and the RS is left with debts. It is rare in the world, as in the RS, for oil traders to have no income.
Whoever wants to be objective, there has been little benefit for citizens from Dodik's investors. The same goes for politics; while citizens are getting poorer, Dodik and his family are getting richer. That is why Dodik can and often entertains citizens by singing 'No one can do anything to us'.
