On the last day of 2014, a train composition with 1,000 tons of high-quality wheat arrived at the silos of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian food industry Klas d.d. Sarajevo. This is only the first part of a total of 50,000 tons of wheat, contracted for storage and consumption until the 2015 harvest, reports the BH news agency Patria.
As Klas Director Rusmir Hrvić stated, this is the best way to start the new business year 2015.
- We have already secured sufficient quantities of the highest quality wheat to supply the population with Klas flour, bread, pastries, and other products in the year ahead. We insist on the safety and quality of this, as well as all other grains and primary agricultural products, because it is required not only by strict food production standards but also by our commitment to a brand like "Klas". Our offer to domestic farmers and institutions remains that we will purchase all available grain surpluses that meet quality standards within BiH - said Hrvić.
Otherwise, the process of delivering, storing, and processing wheat and other grains is fully automated, from the grain entering the Klas premises to the flour and other products leaving production and being transported to customers, which guarantees the safety and quality of the food that Klas produces.
Klas company practice involves taking wheat samples, which is the job of a professional sampler, as well as checking the quality and health safety in one of the best-equipped laboratories for determining the quality of grains, flour, and bakery products in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located within the Klas company's facility. Wheat grain is analyzed for several factors such as: heavy metals, pesticides, radioactivity, aflatoxins, and the like.
If the wheat passes the health safety test, and then the quality control, it is granted permission for storage. A wheat sample is also sent for additional analyses to the Institute of Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo, two certified institutions for conducting health safety controls, as well as quality control of raw materials or products. The capacity of the silos for storing wheat in Sarajevo, as well as other raw materials used in the production process, is 60,000 tons.
The control of wheat, and other raw materials, begins when specific parameters are agreed upon with the supplier, then upon the arrival of wheat at the Klas facility, and finally when the wheat is sent to the mill for flour production. The quality of the wheat is carefully selected to meet the parameters that allow for the preservation and improvement of the existing quality of flour and other flour products from Klas facilities.
