Parents who take their children swimming at city pools often complain about severe and prolonged infections affecting their children, reports BH news agency Patria. They are thus forced to suspend training, but doctors warn that swimming is healthy and that training should not be permanently stopped.
Infections most commonly affect the ears, which, if not treated on time, often spread to the throat or lungs.
The Institute for Public Health of Sarajevo Canton claims that the water in the pools is strictly controlled and safe for swimming. However, if a child already has even the slightest infection, swimming in the pool will accelerate its development.
Prim. Dr. Lejla Hatibović says that experts from the Institute for Public Health of Sarajevo Canton strictly monitor the water quality at the Olympic Pool Otoka, as well as at ten other pools in the city, and that they react to even the slightest change in water quality.
- Swimming is very healthy and desirable for children, as well as for adults. But, if parents notice that their child has an infection, even a minor one, it is best to wait with swimming until the child fully recovers, warns Dr. Hatibović, writes NAP.
