Dizdarević for NAP: We think change is impossible, so we don't even try to say what we want

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The problem of indifference is present in our country and shows that there is no deeper interest in what is happening to us. We follow the behavior of the public in Croatia and Serbia and see that they are trying to prove that they are not faceless and that there is a desire in that nation to change the situation, said psychologist Ismet Dizdarević for Patria, commenting on why citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina do not show resistance to policies in BiH, even though the country has been in crisis for years.

"The state is somehow trying to stop journalists from writing what the ethical code allows them, and more powerful representatives of the authorities do not want to allow it. In that case, the general public is also uninterested. Although problems are discussed in private, dissatisfaction is shown, there is still no reaction in a democratically justifiable way, and people do not come forward with their views," explains Dizdarević.

As he says, "something deeper has become ingrained in our inner world."

"Perhaps fear of possible consequences is the cause. Or our attitude is 'so what can I do, whether I speak or not, the situation will remain the same'. We think that the situation is impossible to change, and therefore we do not even try in any way to show with our voice what we want and desire," Dizdarević told Patria.

He points out that "it is a separate question whether some radical intervention is possible."

"But I believe in the power of journalists and public discourse, which can make a certain step in that regard," concluded Dizdarević.

Thousands of citizens have been peacefully protesting for weeks in several cities in Serbia against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić. During the weekend, journalists in Croatia held peaceful protests against the authorities there, while citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina only take to the streets in Banja Luka due to the unresolved murder of the young man David Dragičević.
