Dita Von Tiz is not my role model

Aida Đapo is the only vintage model in BiH, although she will never say so herself. Born in Trebinje, originally from Bileća, she has been living in Sarajevo for years. In an interview with the BiH news agency Patria, she reveals when and how she discovered her love for the specific "vintage" style.

- Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the actresses of the golden era of Hollywood. My first memory of vintage style is when I went through a metamorphosis phase from a rocker to a rockabilly girl. I knew I had finally found my place when I put on red lipstick, applied eyeliner, and wore my mother's polka dot dress. I definitely belong to the period from the twenties to the fifties of the last century. I love everything about that era - feathers, pearls, the right to vote, T-strap shoes, Charleston, and music from the gramophone. I adore swing dancing, as well as music accompanied by big bands – states Aida.

Although people often tell her she was born in the wrong era, she says it doesn't bother her. Nevertheless, Aida is currently, in addition to all other jobs and hobbies, a final-year student at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Sarajevo. The artistic name Idda Van Munster originated from her favorite childhood TV show. Today, she works as a make-up artist and holds workshops for all girls who want to learn more about that style, way of dressing, and hairstyles. Aida has worked on numerous campaigns, commercials, editorials, participated in music videos, but mostly works for foreign brands (Irregular Choice, Maedchentraum from Germany, Playful Promises from Great Britain, jewelry from France Glitter Paradise, Recollection by Sandra Murphy dresses from New York...).

- I enjoy working with different brands from other countries because they always appreciate the model, and in most cases, besides the fee, I am rewarded with many items they offer – states Aida.

The media often compare her to Dita Von Teese, the most famous burlesque dancer. Especially because of the support Von Teese once gave Aida through social networks.

- I don't consider Dita a role model or inspiration, although I consider her one of the most elegant and glamorous women of the 21st century. She dances burlesque and had a very turbulent past. I only appreciate it when my style is compared to hers. I think we both have similar ladies from the past as role models: Marlene Dietrich, Hedy Lamarr, Ginger Rogers, Ava Gardner, etc., and ordinary, unknown women from old photographs – explains Đapo.

Aida has a clear stance on the prejudices against her way of dressing, and we can freely say, lifestyle.

- I dress for myself, for no one else. When people judge or mock you, they usually do it out of their own insecurity. I think that for women, and for me, of course, beauty is a double-edged sword. Beauty is about your inner attitude, how you behave, and how you act and react to everything around you. People can feel jealous, especially if you are successful. Regardless of whether you are beautiful or not, there are good and bad sides that apply to both. – states Aida.

Although she rarely talks about her private life, her family and boyfriend are her biggest support. Since she doesn't like to be in the spotlight, she doesn't talk much about her future plans either.

- Everything happens spontaneously with me, so I hope that in this year, as in the previous one, I will be doing what I love and what fulfills me. I never plan things, so who knows… – concluded Đapo.
