Distributors ordering huge quantities of seed material

Favorable weather conditions, but also a mild winter this year benefit farmers. The BiH News Agency Patria learns that the demand for seed material in distribution centers has increased and that new orders are arriving daily. Seed potatoes, beans, and peas are particularly sought after. As farmers reveal to us, this year is expected to see up to 50% more sown areas in BiH compared to last year's sowing. Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences in Sarajevo, Nedžad Karić, told NAP that the favorable weather caused an earlier demand for seed material.

- Demand has increased. Given the economic situation, people must return to agriculture and food production. People are without jobs, and prices are skyrocketing, so that might also be the reason for the increased demand – the professor states for NAP.

As the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute told us earlier, vegetation is a month ahead due to the unusually warm winter with an average temperature of 8 degrees Celsius. Professor Karić believes that the weather conditions are the key factor for the increased demand.

- People now want to take advantage of a few days of warm weather. They can plant potatoes now, and they won't be late until the end of March. Otherwise, warm weather does not suit some cultures, while it suits others, but the lack of moisture will not be a problem – says Karić.
