Đidić: American insistence on stability means BiH moving closer to NATO integration

(Patria) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas paid an official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina today.

Former BiH diplomat Fuad Đidić spoke about this visit, the events at the UN Security Council session, and the overall political and diplomatic circumstances in which our homeland finds itself, on the show 'Dobar dan BiH' on Hayat Television.

- Commissioner Kallas arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina to convey a very important message from the EU, which is that the battle for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is being fought over the existence of the High Representative, i.e., the OHR, which is a different message from the one we heard from the American representative at the UN Security Council session - says Đidić.

The American representative, he adds, for the first time in 30 years, remained silent in support of the OHR, unlike European countries such as France or Great Britain.

- Aware of this, Kaja Kallas brings a balanced stance, saying that BiH authorities should take functional leadership of this country, and to the extent they are good at it, the office of the High Representative will be phased out - points out Đidić.

He believes that the key battle between the US and the EU is currently being waged over the role and place of the Office of the High Representative.

In addition, he notes, it is not insignificant that, this time as well as the last, Commissioner Kallas began her talks in BiH with a visit to Camp Butmir, where EUFOR forces are located.

- This is an important, identical signal about where the EU sees the key to BiH's stability - says Đidić.

He emphasizes that the Americans gave full support to Milorad Dodik, without mentioning the OHR, "which is somewhat reasonable and logical".

- At the same time, it is important to say that US representatives, during their speeches, reconciled all these matters by repeating the word stability. If you analyze this term a little more carefully, you will recognize that it is a very complex concept.

As our ambassador Lagumdžija correctly noted, the word stability was repeated nine times in the US representative's speech, which means something in diplomacy.

The word stability in this context, in my opinion, is linked to military stability, i.e., to NATO. This word is actually linked to the military constellation, and of course, this worried Serbia.

Of course, Vučić was also worried by this, and I am sure that our neighbors were also worried by this word. This word sends a message that implies a military organization, and it is likely that bringing BiH closer to NATO integration is an integral part of this deal - adds Đidić.
