DF: Support for workers in trade and service industries

(Patria) - Demokratska fronta gives full support to workers in trade and service industries, who today organised an online protest called „Free for the Holidays“. And for the upcoming May Day holidays, few of these workers, of whom there are about 150,000 in BiH, will be free and celebrate with their families what, ironically in this case, sounds like Labour Day!

"Besides the fact that their average salary is around 650 marks, what offends them even more, and rightly so, is the fact that they are practically without a day off and are not adequately paid even for working on public holidays. We know that employers are preparing a set of laws these days that they will submit to parliamentary debate. We appeal and demand that among them there be a law that will also resolve the issues of overtime and unpaid work of these 150,000 of our citizens.

Of course, we are not advocating for a complete ban on the operation of all shops and service industries during holidays; we demand that the number of those working on those days be selectively determined (reduced), which would allow a good portion of the remaining workers to get a well-deserved rest. We also demand that those who work on holidays be provided with a fair and realistic financial compensation, at least twice the regular amount," the DF stated.
