DF: The Hague rewarded Šešelj, extinguishing the last glimmer of hope in the objectivity of the Hague Tribunal

The acquittal of Chetnik ideologue and warlord Šešelj on all nine counts of the indictment definitively extinguishes the last glimmer of hope in the objectivity of the Hašk Tribunal, it was announced from the Democratic Front, Patria reports.

- As things stand now, this same Tribunal will also pay compensation for the mental anguish that Vojislav Šešelj suffered during these twelve years, from his surrender to the court until today. 

"There are no elements of criminal responsibility for crimes against humanity," "there is no direct but indirect responsibility," "not guilty of persecution and torture" - this is a kind of slap in the face to all victims of Šešelj's paramilitary formations that sowed death and carried out the expulsion of non-Serb populations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, as well as against Vojvodina Hungarians in the Republic of Serbia.

This verdict will further complicate inter-ethnic and inter-state relations in this part of the Balkans, halt the initiated reconciliation processes, and bring the situation even closer to what it was like in the early 1990s. This will particularly strengthen political rhetoric in countries facing elections (R. Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina), further empower nationalists, and additionally weaken what is the alternative to nationalism – sincere reconciliation, economic prosperity, and the path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
