Duty prosecutor requests custody for cigarette smuggler

(Patria) - The duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, who coordinated the seizure operation carried out by authorized officers of the UINO, ordered the deprivation of liberty of a suspect, a citizen of Montenegro, who was driving a vehicle in which, using specialist equipment, a large quantity of several hundred packs of cigarettes was discovered, in a truck that was transporting another type of goods.

The seized quantity of cigarettes, according to preliminary information, was intended for smuggling further towards EU countries.

The duty prosecutor requested the bringing in of the suspect, for whom, after questioning, he will propose the imposition of a custody measure.

This operation is one of the largest seizures of smuggled cigarettes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The activities were carried out by order of the duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, by authorized officers of the UINO BiH and police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency SIPA.

The investigation in the case continues intensively.
