Bomb detonated in front of Greek Ministry of Labour

Greek police carried out a controlled explosion of a timed bomb placed in front of the Ministry of Labour in the center of Athens early this morning, reports Tanjug, carried by Patria.

Explosive ordnance disposal specialists detonated the bomb placed in a backpack left in front of the ministry entrance.

The newspaper "Efimerida ton Sindakton" received a notification about the bomb shortly after midnight.

As reported by AFP, no one has claimed responsibility, but the method points to domestic far-left groups.

- It was a timed bomb, stated an unnamed police source, adding that the device had "failed" as it did not explode at the planned time.

Police had previously secured the area around the Ministry of Labour as a precaution.

No one was injured during the detonation.

The incident occurred after the Greek parliament adopted a new budget on Sunday, which envisages higher taxes and lower pensions, as required by international creditors, according to the reporter's dispatch.
