Uborak landfill on hold, Kordić does not respect procedures

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Mostar Mayor Mario Kordić requested at the session of the City Council of Mostar that a decision on a loan of five million euros for the Uborak landfill be included in the agenda, given that the existing capacities are full. After an hour of discussion, the decision did not receive the necessary majority.

- This is not about someone being against the City of Mostar taking out a loan. Council members only asked for the rules of procedure to be respected, where working bodies and committees of the City Council must review it; the decision proposal cannot come to the City Council without having passed through these committees, and if there is a need, and speed is of the essence, we can schedule a City Council session in seven days, stated Salem Marić, President of the City Council of Mostar.

Let us remind you, at the beginning of December, the director of the EBRD office in our country signed a mandate letter with the Mayor of Mostar and the Director of JP Deponija Mostar with the aim of resolving solid waste management. This was the first step towards solving the landfill problem, after which the decision on the City of Mostar taking out a loan was supposed to follow, but it was not included in the City Council's agenda today.

- We have time pressure when it comes to the landfill. The decision that was supposed to be made was, in a technical sense, that the City Council agrees and that we will take out a loan for the implementation of the adaptation plan. We need it in order to continue the next step in negotiations with the EBRD, explained the Mayor of Mostar.
