Uborak Landfill: New protests today, authorities remain silent

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Residents gathered around the Citizens' Initiative "Because It Concerns Us" have again blocked the Uborak landfill.

About a hundred of them came out at six o'clock this morning to the local road in front of the landfill, preventing access for garbage trucks. 

- After the authorities ignored us regarding how far they have come with examining potential locations, the only thing left for us is the blockade. Because, apparently, this is the only way we can force them to work faster - said Omer Hujdur, one of the representatives of the "Initiative".

“No one is doing anything, and this is our everyday reality. As soon as the wind blows, that's how it is. No one takes care of the citizens who are in the immediate vicinity. All that garbage has been returned to the city of Mostar. We are up there 24 hours a day and we are not giving up on our demands,” said Nijaz Hodžić from the Citizens' Initiative “Because It Concerns Us,” announcing more radical measures – a blockade of the landfill.

When asked about the security guarding the landfill, Hodžić said:

“Let them stand at the entrance and guard the illegal landfill. We will block it somewhere else,” said Nijaz Hodžić, BHT reports.
