Depoliticization of the Presidency is a normal practice in an advanced society

Political analyst Adnan Huskić told the BiH news agency Patria that he sees nothing wrong with the depoliticization of the BiH Presidency, an initiative launched a few days ago by independent candidate for the BiH Presidency Dr. Mustafa Cerić.

On the contrary, Huskić says, the depoliticization of the institution of the president has long been proven as an effective model in normal, ordered European countries. And not just the Presidency, he says, depoliticization should be extended to the local, municipal level.

- In that case, political parties at the local level should not appear – he says.

Unfortunately, Huskić further explains, the depoliticization of these important institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina is still not even close to being implemented. The BiH Presidency is not a system that moves towards depoliticization, but rather a system based on the strict division of power among three ethnic groups.

Speaking about the example of effective depoliticization of the Presidency, Huskić cited the example of neighboring Croatia, or its president Ivo Josipović. Josipović, says Huskić, came to the position of Croatian president as an SDP candidate, but when he took office, he became a moderating factor in Croatian politics between all political parties.

- The president should indeed be a corrector of a country's politics – said Huskić, writes Patria.
