Dennis Gratz Requests Audit of Financial Operations of the City Administration of Mostar

Dennis Gratz, a representative of Naša stranka in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has submitted an initiative to the Parliamentary Audit Commission to initiate an audit of the financial reporting and operations of the City Administration of Mostar, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

In his request, Gratz asks that the Audit Office conduct a special audit of the City Administration of Mostar, review the financial reports and related accounts of the City Administration, assess whether the managers of the City Administration are applying laws and regulations, using funds for appropriate purposes, and provide an assessment of financial management, internal audit functions, and the internal control system applied in the City Administration of Mostar.

Gratz: We are obliged, towards the citizens of Mostar, to examine the spending of the City Administration

Gratz told Patria that he submitted the initiative in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Audit of Institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which stipulates that the Audit Office may conduct a special audit at any time, upon the order of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH.

- I believe we are obliged towards the citizens of Mostar to examine spending in the city of Mostar, primarily due to the fact that this city has no City Council, no elections for seven years, and that power is concentrated in a very narrow circle of people. This is not about calling out any individual, but above all about the obligation of the Federation of BiH to ensure transparency in spending money from the public purse - said Gratz.

He added that with this move, he wants to at least somewhat restore the trust of the citizens of Mostar in state institutions, make a step forward towards resolving the status of Mostar, introduce greater discipline, and show that, despite the lack of elections in this local self-government unit, there is institutional care and institutional oversight over those who have been running the city for years in practically extraordinary circumstances, writes Patria.
