SDP BiH delegates express firm stance that construction of small hydropower plants must be stopped

(Patria) - The Social Democratic Party of BiH, through the vote of delegates in the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament for the Amendments to the Law on Electric Energy, has once again confirmed its firm stance that the construction of all small hydropower plants on rivers in FBiH must be urgently halted, and that ecosystems along watercourses, which are already endangered, must be protected at all costs, it was announced from the SDP.

"It has been proven that we obtain a negligible percentage of electricity production from these hydropower plants, while the damage is enormous, both for the local community and for all citizens of BiH, because in addition to being an attack on nature and natural resources, it is also an attack on people and the economy of this country. The argument about increasing the number of jobs also does not hold, as these are technologically advanced projects with almost complete automation of work, thus often employing a smaller number of staff, and due to meager concession fees, it is clear that such projects only pay off for political corruption.

The period of public debate is ahead of us, and we call on all interested parties to unite in promoting the argument that we are obliged to protect our waters for ourselves, but also for future generations.
From the very beginning, we have clearly emphasized that the public interest must always come before the profit of any individual," the SDP statement reads.
