Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović held a meeting today with a delegation of the Association of Generals of BiH, discussing the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the increasingly frequent prosecution of members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina for alleged war crimes, as well as the realisation of the rights of the veteran population, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
At the meeting, information was exchanged regarding the increasingly frequent proceedings for alleged war crimes being conducted against former members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Support was expressed for the prosecution of all criminals, but also the need for the BiH Prosecutor's Office to resist inappropriate political pressures aimed at equating the warring sides and creating artificial balances in the prosecution of war crimes.
It was emphasised that the Army of the Republic of BiH, led by members of the Association of Generals of BiH, systematically prevented and punished crimes committed by individuals in its ranks, while the forces that carried out the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina systematically planned, organised, encouraged, and executed crimes. Therefore, creating artificial balances in the number of initiated criminal proceedings and handed-down court verdicts is unacceptable, the statement said.
Concrete measures and activities that the competent institutions will undertake in providing support to all suspected and accused members of the Army of the Republic of BiH, in defending their honour and dignity, were also discussed.
The generals informed Izetbegović about the problems they and other members of the veteran population face in realising the right to a fair pension, emphasising that they want the adoption of better legal solutions concerning rights in this area in the Federation of BiH.
Member of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegović stressed that he supports finding a fair solution in this area, in accordance with the provisions of the BiH Constitution, which do not allow any kind of inequality and discrimination.
