Delegation of Stari Grad Municipality: Students from Konjević Polje and Nova Kasaba Received Backpacks and School Supplies

On the occasion of Mother Language Day, a delegation of Stari Grad Municipality visited today the students of elementary schools in Konjević Polje and Nova Kasaba and presented them with backpacks, school supplies, books and sweets. The delegation consisted of the Municipality Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Jusuf Pušina, the Deputy Chairmen Irfan Čengić and Sanel Dragolovčanin, and the Head of the SDP Club in the Stari Grad Municipal Council Muamer Mekić.

The branch school "Petar Kočić" in Konjević Polje is attended by 46 students, and they were today given backpacks with school supplies, as well as books for the school library. According to the school principal Olivera Beatović, in a small place like Konjević Polje, where parents struggle to educate their children, such help is more than welcome.

- The local community of Konjević Polje is poor, the local population is engaged in agriculture and livestock farming, and there is also high unemployment among the population. Parents struggle to educate their children in the best possible way, so any help is welcome, whether in school supplies or something else - said the principal and expressed great gratitude to the Stari Grad Municipality for today's visit and donation.

- I hope that this day is the beginning of our successful cooperation with you - said Beatović.

The Educational Center in Nova Kasaba is attended by 118 students, and according to the President of the Parents' Council Muhizin Omerović, the number of interested children grows from year to year, but so do the problems they face. In order for students in Nova Kasaba to acquire basic education, lessons must be held by teachers who come from Sarajevo, and at the end of the year, students come to Sarajevo to take final exams. He also highlights the problem of the language that children learn, emphasizing that it exists in almost the entire territory of the Republika Srpska, except perhaps Kozarac.

- Thank you very much for this visit, because besides material support of any kind, the moral support is extremely important to us, which is that people understand why we are in this school and what problems we face - said Omerović.

The schools in Konjević Polje and Nova Kasaba were today donated more than a hundred titles for school libraries, donated by the National and University Library of Sarajevo, Forum Bosna, "Libris" and writer Fahrudin Kučuk.
