KS DELEGATION: WE MUST PROTECT OUR HOMELAND

(Patria) - A delegation from the Sarajevo Canton today marked March 1st - Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chairman of the KS Assembly Elvedin Okerić, Deputy Chairman of the KS Assembly Vibor Handžić, Prime Minister Edin Forto, Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Displaced Persons and Refugees Ivana Prvulović, Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica, Minister of Culture and Sports Samir Avdić, and Minister of Finance Davor Čičić paid tribute and laid flowers at the tombstone of a Bosnian martyr and the grave of the first President of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the late Alija Izetbegović, as well as the monuments to the Eternal Flame, the murdered children of besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995, and Novi Grad, and the Vraca Memorial Park.

Chairman Okerić reminded that in 1992, the citizens of BiH expressed their commitment to an independent and sovereign BiH, a state of all peoples, in a referendum.

“This is one of the most significant dates in the recent history of the country. From then until today, BiH has made many sacrifices. Much blood has been shed, and because of that, we must constantly remind the younger generations to protect our homeland in peace,” said Chairman Okerić on this occasion.

He added that we live in turbulent times, a time of moral crisis and distorted values.

“What is important is that truth has always prevailed throughout history, and every effort to put universal values in their place is always worthwhile. Today, we visited places that remind us how important it is for a nation to have its own state. I congratulate all citizens of BiH on March 1st - Independence Day of BiH,” said Chairman Okerić.

Independence Day of BiH was also marked by numerous other delegations - members of the Presidency of BiH, leaders of both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH and the Council of Ministers of BiH, leaders of both houses of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the President and Vice-Presidents of the Federation of BiH, members of the Government of the Federation of BiH, officials of the Assembly and Government of the Sarajevo Canton, leaders of the City Council and City Administration of Sarajevo, municipal councils and municipalities, as well as veterans' and other non-governmental organizations.
