US Congress Delegation Meets with Čović and Izetbegović

Members of the BiH Presidency received a delegation of the United States Congress led by Congressman Devin Nunes. Congressman Nunes, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, expressed gratitude for the reception and welcome to Chairman Dragan Čović and member of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegović.

Members of the BiH Presidency thanked for the previous assistance and support, as well as the proactive role of the United States in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Ambassador Maureen Cormack.

Members of the BiH Presidency informed the guests about the current political situation in the country, with special emphasis on European integration, stressing that Bosnia and Herzegovina is strongly committed to maintaining positive momentum and continuing reform processes and progress in fulfilling conditions for obtaining EU candidate status. It was stated that there is a unified stance in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) in NATO, and that necessary activities are underway related to fulfilling the required technical conditions for activation.

Congressman Nunes welcomed the progress achieved and the reforms implemented by Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressing full support of the United States for strengthening institutions, the rule of law, and democracy. It was concluded that regional stability is a priority and that necessary reforms within Bosnia and Herzegovina need to be implemented, as well as intensified cooperation with neighboring countries, in order to enhance the security of the Western Balkans.

The interlocutors agreed that it is in the mutual interest of both countries to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations in all fields, with special emphasis on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
